States Where Igbos are Found in Nigeria
In this article, we will be discussing Nigerian states that are regarded as Igbo states. These are states where Igbos are found and are indigenes.
There is a long-standing debate of which areas of southern Nigeria is Igbo land. The division and demarcation of Nigeria into geo graphical zone has caused many tensions in trying to define people of the same race and culture.
Also, creation of more states in Nigeria has seen fusion of different tribes into one state and this has left the states with task of trying to define who they are and their ancestral origin.
It is against this backdrop that we have come up with post to provide states in Nigeria where Igbos are found. Otherwise known as Igbo states in Nigeria.

Below is the list of Igbo states in Nigeria. Igbo tribe is one of the major three tribes in Nigeria alongside Hausa-Fulani and Yoruba.
It is estimated that there are over 50 million Igbos scattered all over Nigeria. Igbos are entrepreneurs and travelers; hence they are found in every corners of Nigeria.
In this post we will be stating the Nigerian states where Igbos are indigenes and live at. Basically, Igbos are residing in southern Nigeria. The following are Igbo states in Nigeria.
Anambra state is one of predominantly Igbo states in Nigeria. The state on lower part of Niger. The capital of the state is Awka.
The two major tribes in Anambra State is Igbos and Igalas. The state has the biggest natural gas reserve in west Africa.
Abia state is one of the major Igbo states in Nigeria. The capital of the state is Umuahia. The state has crude deposits and is one of the Niger Delta states in Nigeria.
The state houses one of the largest markets in Nigeria and is home to manufacturing in Nigeria.
Imo state is one of the predominantly Igbo states in Nigeria. The state also has crude deposits and is a member of oil producing states in Nigeria known as Niger Delta states.
Owerri is the state’s capital. The major tribes found at Imo state is Igbos.
Another Igbo state in Nigeria is Enugu state popularly referred to as Coal city state. The state has large deposit of Coal.
The state is bordered by Anambra, Benue and Ebonyi state. It Igbo dominated state.
Ebonyi State is one of the Igbo states in Nigeria. It is highly agrarian state in Nigeria. Abakaliki is the capital of the Igbo state. It is an Igbo state. There are about nine languages spoken at the state.
Delta state is one of the states where Igbos are found in Nigeria. It is one of the Igbo states in Nigeria.
However, there is no clear reports yet on the predominant tribe in Delta state. The capital of Delta state, Asaba is pure Igbo land. Other Igbo land and towns in Delta state are Anioma town, Agbor etc.
Facts and history have shown that Rivers state is one of states in Nigeria where Igbos are indigenes. History has it that the people presently referred to as Ikwere people are purely Igbo people.
Another school of thought has it that renouncing of Igbo identity by some Igbos in Rivers state is as result of effect of Nigeria civil war.
Hence most Igbo names in the state has the word “R” added before the first letter. Nevertheless, local government like Oyigbo LGA and other towns in Obi Akpor LGA are places where Igbos are indigenes in Rivers state.
Other tribes found at Rivers state include the Ijaws, Kalabaris etc. Rivers state is one of the states in Nigeria where Igbos are indigenes.
There is traces of Igbo people who are indigent to Benue state. These Igbos who are indigenes of Benue state are bordered to Ebonyi state.
