In a bid to encourage competition and improvement, every year, Nigeria University Commission (NUC), an umbrella body that regulates the activities of Nigerian universities ranks all universities in Nigeria based on infrastructure, learning and overall performance.

This ranking encourages healthy competition among the universities, while also presenting prospective students with the best universities there is in the country.

In this article, Nigerian Informer will be listing 10 best Nigerian universities from over eighty recognized and accredited universities in Nigeria.

This is the ranking of Nigeria’s best universities according to Nigeria University Commission (NUC) points

#1. University of Ibadan (UI)

University of Ibadan top the list of Nigerian best universities for the year. The university was established in the year 1947 and was initially an affiliate of University of London.

The university is situated at the ancient city of Ibadan in Oyo State, south west of Nigeria. In 1962, the university got accreditation to run an independent and full-fledged university.

University of Ibadan College of Medicine is one of the best there is in Africa. The university has thirteen faculties with numerous accredited departments.

#2. University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN)

University of Nigeria Nsukka is regarded as Nigeria’s first university. It was founded in the year 1955 by Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe.

The students of the noble institution are called Lions and Lionesses. The university operates four main campuses which are located at: Nsukka (University of Nigeria Nsukka, UNN), Enugu (University of Nigeria Enugu campus, UNEC), Ituku-Ozalla (University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, UNTH) & Aba (University of Nigeria, Aba Campus, UNAC).

#6. Ahmadu Bello University (ABU)

Ahmadu Bello University is located at Zaria in Kaduna State. The university was founded in the year 1962 and is the best university in northern Nigeria and one of the best in the country.

The university is named after the former premier of northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello.

Most top universities in northern Nigeria like Bayero University Kano and Tafawa Balewa University were nurtured by ABU.
