Salary of Teachers in Nigerian States

To be specific this work will focus on salary of state government teachers in Nigeria. The financial prowess of states are not even in Nigeria.

This is reflected in salaries paid by each states. Some states pay higher and bigger salaries than other.

This is so applicable in earnings of teachers across Nigeria.

Some state government teachers earn highly compared to what their level and counterparts earns elsewhere.

So in this work different states and regions in Nigeria will be mentioned and their entry level salary for teachers will be stated.

There aren’t much differences between salaries of teachers in different states especially in southern Nigerian states.

With exception of Lagos state and Rivers states which pays very high salaries, most teachers in Nigeria states shares very close entry level salary for teachers.

Teacher’s Salaries at Anambra, Imo, Enugu, Abia & Ebonyi States

Here are starting salaries for government teachers in southeast states of Anambra, Imo, Enugu, Abia and Ebonyi state.

It is very open knowledge that qualifications for getting teaching appointments in Nigeria are, NCE, OND, HND and first degree.

Starting salary for teachers in Anambra state is around N38,000 per month.

Enugu state is also one of the highest paying states to teachers in southeast region.

Starting salaries for teachers in Enugu state is around N40,000 monthly,while Abia, Imo and Ebonyi starting salaries for teachers is around N35,000 per month.

Teachers Salaries at Rivers, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom & Cross River States

Rivers state starting salaries for teachers is the highest in the region. Starting salaries for teachers in a Rivers states is around N45,000 per month.

This is Rivers state teachers salary for newly employed secondary school teachers. While Primary schools teachers in Rivers state earn a little below those of secondary school counterparts as teachers take off salary in Rivers state.

Starting salaries for teachers in Akwa Ibom, Delta and Cross Rivers states is between N38,000 to N42,000 per month.

This teacher’s salary range is also applicable to Bayelsa and Edo states.

Teachers Salaries at Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti & Ondo States

We didn’t include salary of government teachers in Lagos state because it is already discussed independently in one of our previous article.

However in Southwest, Lagos state pay the highest salaries to teachers.

Starting salaries for teachers in Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Oyo and Ekiti states is between N30,000 to N40,000 per month.

Teachers Salaries at Abuja, Kaduna, Benue, Kano, Kwara & Kogi states

Up north, Abuja and Benue pay some of the biggest salaries to teachers.

Starting salaries for teachers in government schools in Abuja and Benue is between N40,000 to N45,000 per month.

Salary of teachers in other northern states like Kaduna, Kwara, Kano, Kogi, Niger State and Nasarawa is between N30,000 to N35,000 per month.

The federal government has proposed and approved some recommendations for teachers and teaching professions in Nigeria.

Among these approved recommendations include retirement age for teachers which is now pegged at 65 years of service.

Also, Federal government has also approved increase of salary for government teachers in Nigeria.

The white paper if implemented will see an increase in salary of government teachers in Nigeria.

With teachers starting salary slated at somewhere around N56,000 per month.
