According to Nigeria Universities Commission (NUC), a prospective or intending nursing students who wants to pursue a nursing degree or certification in any government approved academic institution in Nigeria, must have to have not less than five (5) credit passes in the required SSCE (WAEC, NECO, GCE) examination.

This is subject requirements in JAMB for nursing students in Nigeria. In UTME, there are three (3) JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Nursing / Nursing Science which can be under the Faculty of Medical, Pharmaceutical & Health Sciences.

Requirements to Study Nursing Through Direct Entry

For graduates or diploma holders who wants to read or study nursing and nursing sciences in Nigeria, they have to enroll through direct entry route.

This is a specific requirements for both university, polytechnic graduates and diploma holders who wants to read nursing in Nigeria on how to study nursing as direct entry in Nigeria.

Of course,as a graduate or diploma holder, if you intend to read nursing in Nigeria especially if you are coming from related field, you would not need start from first year except you decide to do so.

But if you are a science student who measured in natural sciences, you will be better of to study nursing in Nigeria as direct entry.

Direct Entry Requirements for Nursing

Here are the requirements to study Nursing through Direct Entry for Direct Entry (DE) Candidates.

These are mostly for graduates and diploma holders who wants to study nursing sciences in Nigeria.

  • Must be Registered Nurses (RN) with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
  • Must have passed the Advanced level General Certificate of Education (GCE) in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics in no more than two sittings are also eligible to apply.
  • Must have completed the O’ level requirements of five credit passes in at least five subjects, including English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry, in no more than two sittings, and to have passed the university screening test.

It is pertinent to note that admission, the institution is has discretion to require candidates admitted to the four-year program may be to take specific courses to make up for deficiencies in their academic background, if need be.
